It’s been
ages since I set foot in one this popular chain called Ampang Homeland Yong Tau
Foo which boasts of several branches namely in Kampung Ampang Baru (yes, where
else, right?), USJ, SS2 and even in Klang.
Sugar cane & wheat grass |
Sauces for dipping the stuffed ingredients |
The USJ
outlet is located in the Taipan business centre and has no air conditioning.
Having said that, the place is not oven hot as they have huge fans to cool the
place down.
The yong
tau foo costs RM1 per piece. We ordered ladies fingers, white tau foo, bitter
gourd as well as dumplings and fish balls. We also
sampled the fried foo chok. We were given a choice of whether to have them dry
or in soup. We asked for the stuffed items and soup to be served separately except for
the fishballs and dumplings, and the waiter willingly obliged.
The dumpling soup was alright but the fish
ball soup had too much pepper in it.
Dumplings in soup - minimum order - 5 pieces |
Fish balls in soup |
This is the
pandan chicken wing . For the record, each piece costs a whopping RM2.50…. When
the chicken wings arrived, I could not help but to take a few smells before
sinking my teeth into them. Each piece was flavourfully marinated and I loved it.
Lettuce in
oyster sauce (RM7). The serving is of course very generous, but I would have
prefer the lettuce cut into smaller pieces for easy eating.
Asam fish
(RM5) –this had always been the specialty here. Once again it lived up to my
expectation. Piping hot chillies with onions always give a perfect blend of ‘sourish
sweet’ taste.
