Restoran Summer Park, Bukit Tinggi

Taking a slow drive to Bentong, we decided to stop for lunch at Bukit Tinggi. Famed for its cool weather and fresh vegetables and ginger, many a tourist have made a stop-over to purchase these items before continuing their journey along the Karak Highway.

I love this DIY deco made of aluminium cans that turn & swirl with the wind

We drove around the tiny village of Bukit Tinggi and settled on having lunch at Summer Park. This 2-storey standalone restaurant has it’s a reasonably spacious parking area. There is even a stall within its premise selling fresh produce such as bananas, ginger, soursop …just to name a few.

Fruit stall

The pleasant ambience makes dining here a great experience. Although the restaurant has no air conditioning, the wide open spaces made the heat totally unfelt.  After ordering  our food with kind assistance from the helpful waitress, we went for a walk at the back of the restaurant where poultry was reared and vegetables planted. In fact, we saw a man plucking vegetables there – and it was then cooked and served to us....that’s how fresh the vegetables here are. This was priced at RM8

This is basically  a dish made from squid, prawns, black fungus   (RM15) and of course vegetables from their garden. The kids love the gravy which went very well with rice.

This is 1.4kilogrammes’ worth of fish (RM49). The flesh oozed with freshness & it was succulent. The only complaint we had was that the fish was very bony.

Restoran Makanan Laut Loong Sing, Bukit Tinggi

It was time for makan ,after a walkabout in Bukit Tinggi trying to haggle for the best priced fresh vegetables which were on sale. There were lots of people there probably due to the long Hari Raya Haji weekend.

We  decided on Loong Sing as the place was full of customers, which usually meant that the food was good. The first thing that caught my attention was this bottled filled with  tiny chilies. I gathered enough courage to try one…and boy , it was really HOT! I had no choice but to grab a bottle of this imperatae cane drink.

This is vermicelli in a pungent ginger frog leg soup. I would say the texture  of the frog meat is more tender than chicken and definitely fat free! Ginger lends a sweet yet  pungent  taste to the soup.

We also tried 2 other noodle dishes and I must say that the Loong Sing does wonders for noodle lovers! No wonder the place is always packed!

Restoran Heng Kee Ulu Yam Noodles, Bt Tinggi Klang

I was in the Bukit Tinggi area with my colleague and we decided to grab a quick lunch. As the weather  was hazy, I decided to order a fresh coconut to quench my thirst and hopefully clear my throat.

I then noticed that this simple restaurant has the ability to cook up so many wonderful dishes as evident from the pictures adorning the walls. But, as were did not have much time before our next meeting I decided to have the Ulu Yam noodles whilst she opted for what I would label as unadventurous Cantonese noodles. I’ll tell you about my Ulu Yam lor meen – with vinegar and lots of lard, this was a platter of awesomeness, if there’s such a word!

Awesome lor meen

We also tried this  - can’t remember what it’s called, but just look at what’s inside!

Welcome 126 Restaurant, Bukit Tinggi

I was feeling a little hungry  this afternoon as I was travelling via the Karak Highway. I quickly made a pitstop at Bukit Tinggi for tea time. The place was surprisingly crowded as we walked in around 3.30pm.

We ordered 2 plates of noodles to be shared amongst the 2 of us – we had Cantonese kuay teow as well as fried  dry noodles. The Canotonese kuay teow was a tad starchy for me, otherwise it was alright. I prefer the al dente, to the tooth, noodles fried with a generous amount of lard, which made the noodles extremely tasty.

Mum Mum Seafood, Bt Tinggi

The Bukit Tinggi area in Klang never runs out of good eateries. Today, I went to check out Mum Mum Seafood, which hails all the way from Kuala Selangor.

The walls boasts of photographs of their signature dishes…and judging from the wide collection of pictures, one can easily tell that they can cook a huge variety of food.

Now…to see whether they do it well or not

We ordered tofu – cooked with a thick, brown  gravy and garnished with some chopped spring onions, the velvety smooth tofu was flavourful.

Pork – cooked with some honey and sesame – this was sweet and easy on the teeth.

Steamed crab – this method of cooking completely proved that the crab (note we only had a 750-gramme crab…it was SO huge, it filled the entire plate!) was fresh and very meaty. Loved it!

Have A Bowl, Bandar Bukit Tinggi

I now believe that this shop specialises in desserts. I walked into the shop today and it was quite empty except for a few people having their dessert. We were too lazy to brave the scorching sun and decided that since our car was parked right in front of this shop, we should have lunch and then dessert here.

The first thing that caught my attention was the colourful walls here. I also noticed that they had a water dispenser where you could help yourself to as much water as you wish – for free!

We had pork tepanyaki (RM11.90) and udon tepanyaki  (RM13.90).  I found both to be laced with lots of what I would call taste enhancer…and both were not up to par.

We also tried the chicken popcorn (RM5.90) and spring roll (RM5.90) . Whilst both were pretty alright, I would have preferred them to be less oily.

Chicken popcorn

The takoyaki (RM3.90) and okonomiyaki  (RM7.50) did not quite agree with my palate.

After that we ordered dessert which came in the form of fresh soya milk with sweet rice balls (RM6.90) and kiwi fruit ice cream (RM7.90). The glutinous rice ball were extremely delicious, a stark contrast to our main course. The kiwi fruit ice cream provided a visual delight and was delicious too.

Well, perhaps it’s best to come to dessert shops for desserts and not be too adventurous like me by trying to have a complete meal here.

Restoran Windmill, Aeon Bukit Tinggi, Klang

The kids were getting restless at home and wanted to go somewhere where they could have some fun playing. As it was raining cats and dogs outside, a trip to any outdoor playground was virtually impossible. So, we decided on Aeon Bukit Tinggi which is also known to many as Jusco Bukit Tinggi. They have a Kids Fun Zone there and for RM8 you can play all day – no time limit!

After all the running around, it was time for dinner. We walked a few steps (yes, you can take this literally) and found ourselves at Restoran Windmill. At 6pm, it was empty –we were the first customers for dinner!

The ambience needs a special mention. Artificial tulips beautifully arranged in a row greet us as we enter. The place is dimly lit and the waiter comes over to light a red candle for us while we browse through the menu. I really liked their deco….it gives you the feeling of comfort and relaxation – just what we needed to wind down after the crazy fun at the Kids Zone.

Our drinks – guava juice and Orange Juice (RM5.90 each), health juice (RM7.90) – oooohhh…how healthy, I could taste some celery in it - and a strawberry milkshake (RM8.90). Both the fruit juices were very good. The orange had that nice tangy feeling and I loved it. The milkshake reminded me of yoghurt drink –it was certainly very fruity and tasty!

For appetiser we had a dozen escargots (RM28.90).This was cooked so perfectly with cheese that even the kids couldn’t resist trying them.

The chicken and salad (RM16.90) was a steal. We emptied the dish within minutes. The chicken was very flavourful and I definitely enjoyed every bite of it!

This is the seafood platter. Despite not having a liking for batter-fried food, I found this platter very delightful although the squid was slightly over-cooked.

The mixed grill had pieces of chicken, beef  and a sausage. A squeeze (or should I say a squeeze too much) of the lemon slice made this dish zesty and invigorating.

How I  wish I had the words to describe the perfection of the meal I had ……….errr..maybe PERFECT should be it!

Note from the writer : The ambiece of this place is suitable for Valentine's dinner or simply a date where you want to impress!
