Bar B.Q. Plaza, Main Place USJ21

Bar B.Q Plaza has a few outlets located in major shopping malls. Today was my first attempt at trying some Bar B.Q. Plaza food. The outlet located on the lower ground floor of Main Place was abuzz as we walked in.

We were greeted ‘Sawadee-kap’ and I was surprised as I had thought that this was a Mongolian concept cuisine but I later found out that the guy who first came up with the idea of Bar B.Q Plaza was Thai.

We ordered the family combo priced at RM88.80 which came with 4 drinks, 4 garlic fried rice, thai fish cake, fried bacon, marinated chicken drumstick and a mixed platter.

For beginners or first timers, there is no need to feel overly anxious as there is a ‘How to Cook?’ Guide placed on every table.

In fact, the waiters are so conscientious that when you are first ushered to your table, they do take the trouble to find out whether that is your first visit to Bar B.Q. Plaza and they take the pain to go through the guide with you. That makes a world of difference to me and I would say I love the food as well as the impeccable service given to us that day.

Woo Ga Chon, Sunway

Woo Ga Chon has been around for quite a few years but I only had the chance to walk into the Sunway outlet today. I like the ambience - there were lots of pictures of Korea all over the restaurants. Pictures of Korea in the winter, autumn, etc. It gave me a very "Korean" feel.

Immediately after we were seated the staff , all of whom are Koreans, served us with this tea.

Pork and chicken - before BBQ

We decided on the BBQ selection -dak gal bi (RM28 ) - that's chicken and also dae ji gal bi (pork), also priced at RM28.

It's cooking!

Pork - it's done

Chicken - ready to eat!

The outcome - both the chicken and pork were very delicious. The chicken was slighlty spicy and I actually prefered it to the pork.

As with all other Korean BBQ meals, this one come with ample ban chan.

Cabbage

Lettuce

Soup

Kimchi and radish

Corn with cream

Spinach, brinjal

White tofu - this was really good!

Chives

Steamed egg -one of the best I've tasted

Mashed Potato

Anchovies with peanuts

Dessert
After a very hearty meal, we had a pleasant surprise -we were served dessert  -a chilled bowl of dessert which tasted like barley to me and some watermelon. Perfect!

I'll be back again, thats for certain!

Seafood Shabu-Shabu @ Jeju Island & Jeju BBQ

When in Jeju eat like the Jeju-ans do! This time around I had Jeju Seafood Shabu Shabu - well, we had to sit on the floor to eat this...and I made the mistake of saying 'Oh, Japanese style'.....and from then onwards I discovered how utterly unpopular the Japanese are among Koreans. History has it that the Japanese occupied Korea for over 30 years...and until today the Koreans have not forgotten this! Enough said!

Seafood Shabu Shabu can be said to be steamboat with lots of mussels, crabs and prawns -all this eaten with rice and also ramen along with side dishes - kimchi, pickled shallots, seaweed and bean sprouts.

Simply called Jeju BBQ this is a very mouth watering dish. Pork is cooked on a hot plate and eaten with rice and side dishes. A bowl of seaweed soup is also served along with some greens.

Bimbimbap & Pork Hot Pot - Seoul

You can buy souvenirs from this stall in front of the restaurant - very reasonably priced

It’s 12 noon and I am extremely hungry. After nearly seven hours in the plane from KL and a good walk around Seoul I deciced to eat. I arrived at this restaurant and ordered bimbimbap. Well, it’s just a simple meal of mixed rice. This is what the rice looked like before I mixed them together. (the so called ‘BEFORE’ picture.

And here’s the ‘AFTER’ picture.

I also had the pork in  hot pot. Korean style food are more towards ‘cook it yourself’ and so they just gave us raw pork and we had to cook it ourselves…nothing to complain about as it actually helped to warm us up in this cold weather.

Side dishes - seaweed, kimchi and bean sprouts
