Magpie Café, Capital Square

I would say that Magpie Café is one of the lesser known eateries at Capital Square partly due to the fact that it is rather secluded. Unless you really look hard, you will be sure to miss it.

I went there today to try out the Set Lunch which was affordably priced at RM18.90.
The set comprised of the platter below and a choice of drink- I chose soya bean.  A quarter chicken plus some mashed potatoes made into a big ball and some salad. I would sum it all up as value-for-money!

Modestos Capital Square

I am at Capital Square on Jalan Munshi Abdullah once again and opted to sit outside. I do recall my last visit here where I sat in the restaurant and was ‘food’ to the mosquitoes! Well, the downside of taking a table outside the restaurant was of course I had to inhale lots of second hand smoke, no thanks to the smokers around me.

Today I took the opportunity to try the ala-carte menu. I ordered the minestrone soup. Priced at RM15, it came in a huge bowl. The soup had lots of potatoes, carrots and onions. But I would have preferred my soup to have more…SOUP! There was hardly any soup in this huge bowl and I spent three quarters of my time eating potatoes and carrots.

This is spaghetti aglio with added prawns (RM19) -  although the prawn serving was generous, I dod not like the way they were  cut into tiny pieces – it somehow gave me the impression that they were leftover prawns. Anyway, it tasted alright, but I would love this more if the amount of chopped garlic had been significantly reduced.

Bayernhaus Restaurant

This place is actually quite hidden if you walk in from CapSquare. However, if you do find it you will realize that there is actually another entrance. To locate it, simply find Starbucks…it’s just nearby!

This is fresh orange and it costs RM12.50. I’ve no complaints about this drink. In fact I think it deserves a compliment as it was not too sweet yet tasty enough.

I ordered a salad. And they call this Taste of Summer. For RM18.90 you get a huge plate of fresh salad with pieces of chicken. The portion is sufficient to fill the tummy.

But, I eat a lot…so I ordered this as well…Grill Platter (RM68). You get various types of sausages, beef, pork and some salad (yes, again!). This was definitely a very satisfying dish and I loved every bite of it!

Wanton Mee at Modesto's Capital Square

So, I head to Modesto’s. I want to check out their Chinese Menu as I have been told that this outlet does pretty reasonable ones in terms of price & quality.

There are many tables outside the outlet and of course many more inside. I opt to sit inside as I don’t want to smell of cigars or cigarettes in the cinema later on. And I must say I ‘donated’ a lot of blood to the mosquitoes that day!!
Now we move on to more important stuff –FOOD! I looked through the Chinese Menu and saw that there were lots of varities – Hokkien noodles, yee mee noodles with prawns, Wan ton noodles, fried rice , sze chuan soup….just to name a few.
I ordered the Wan ton Noodles and an orange juice. I waited quite a while for my noodles…let’s just say my drink was finished before the noodles arrived. The orange juice was superb. I could feel the freshness of the orange used and it was not diluted…just perfect! But be warned that this drink is not cheap…suffice to say it costs more than RM10 per glass.
The Wanton noodles finally arrived. I liked the texture of the noodles – smooth. Very tasty soup too, but I did not really liked the prawn wanton as the prawns were tiny and not that fresh.
I’ll come here again another day & have the Western food, or even the set lunch…until next time, I’ve got a movie to catch. Bye now!!

I am dying to watch a movie and it seems that most of the tickets are sold out. I’ve been told that when all else fails, just head to Capital Square and you will not only get the tickets but good seats as well. So, I made another trip to Cap Square….bought my tickets (such a breeze mind you!) and I hear my tummy growling…oh, I nearly forgot I need some dinner before the movie.

Grand Imperial Kitchen, Capital Square

It’s Monday and it’s almost time for lunch. As I need to get some blank CDs and an external hard disk, I decided to go to the newly opened (not so new actually) ICT Mall at Jalan Munshi Abdullah. I arrived at close to 12 noon and decided that what I need was a quick bite – must take care of my tummy before I shop as I once read that a survey showed that if you shop on an empty stomach you will end up spending more.
I decided on the Grand Imperial Kitchen as I have the Grand Imperial member card. It is located on the Ground Floor…has a significant presence that you cant miss if you are in the ICT Mall building. They’ve got lots of set meal. I browse through the extensive list and settle for Individual Super Value Set 3 which was dry curry chicken with egg noodles + ‘drink of the day’ which was lo han kuo and a bowl of soup.
My lo han kuo arrived 2 minutes later, pretty impressive, I would say. It tasted good –it was not too sweet, yet not too dilulted- just nice!

3 minutes later the noodles were served.  I believe they must have used some dark soya sauce in this dish. Appearance wise – ok, but don’t look like the usual dry curry as it seemed a little too dark. In terms of taste, it was ok – not too salty yet spicy enough for me. I was happy to see that they put in some vegetables (siew pak choy) with this set. For RM11.90 + 10% service tax, my tummy was filled and I am now ready for some IT shopping!
