Grand Imperial USJ 19

Walking into Grand Imperial in USJ19 Mall was like walking into a nice ballroom.

I love the ambience and the buzz inside, which was a great contrast compared to the mall itself.

I had dim sum for brunch:-

Watermelon & orange juice

Honey dew juice

Tom’s Dim Sum, Taman Desa

This is an air-conditioned eatery with its doors open. I like the articles and pictures that adorn the walls of the restaurant.

Honey lemon (RM3.50) – this drink truly brought out the sweetness of honey and the sourish taste of lemon – a perfect combination.

We ordered steam pork ribs (RM4.90) – with some black beans and some albeit not too much fat, the ribs were tasty and delicious.

Steam fish ball (RM4.90) – served with some dried beancurd, I found the pairing a little off. Well, I’ll say that there’s nothing spectacular about the fishball either.

Prawn rice roll a.k.a chee cheong fun (RM5) – with its smooth and silky texture this was awesome.

We also tried some other dishes – the claypot tofu was fantastic – smooth tofu with prawns which remained warm and satisfying throughout  the entire meal. I didn’t quite like the butter prawns here as they are spicy-somehow I felt that the combination of butter and chillies just wasn’t right!

Hoong Foong Dim Sum, USJ21

Hoong Foong is probably one of the most well-known dim sum outlet in USJ, and having heard a lot about this place, I decided to check out the food myself.

I arrive just after 9am on a Saturday morning and the entire restaurant (including the tables on the five-foot way) were all occupied. A little patience and some minutes later we got ourselves a table. Phew!

A look at the extensive list of dim sum available tells me that I would have a tough time deciding what to eat!

Here are some of the dim sum we had – ladies fingers, stuffed chillies, siew loong pau, etc.

I must say that the dim sum was very fresh and extremely tasty.  With every bite, I fell more and more in love with the dim sum here – top notch!

In conclusion I would say that if you ever wake up early in the morning craving  for dim sum, make your way to Hoong Foong for their truly delectable dim sum!

Yoke Fook Moon Restaurant 玉福满点心 , Ipoh

If you are the type who judge the book by the cover then you would definitely give this restaurant a miss…and in doing so will miss out on what I call the best dim sum in Ipoh.

The front façade is simple and certainly pales in comparison to the other dim sum restaurants located in the vicinity. But trust me, the dim sum here is simply marvelous.

The staff are efficient and friendly. Unlike most dim sum outlets where food is brought around on a push cart, at Yoke Fook Moon the staff carry them in trays from table to table.

G YiTang Hong Kong Tim Sum, USJ 10

I’ve always liked eating dim sum for brunch and had often walked past G YiTang waiting for the opportune time to have brunch there. And I found that chance  last Saturday as I had a 1pm facial appointment nearby. The place, as I had always noticed, was packed with people.

I chose to sit by the  wall and that I would say was a mistake as the carts filled with dim sum which were being pushed around could not manoeuver its way through the narrow passage to where I was seated.

My drink

The spare ribs just didn’t work for me  -they were dry and tasteless.

The siew mai was alright.

And I’ll leave you to judge the rest from the pictures:-

To sum it all up I would say I’ve had better dim sums.

Restaurant Jin Xuan Hong Kong, PJ Old Town

Dim sum for brunch is something I can never resist. Today I went to Jin Xuan in PJ Old Town. Jin Xuan has 6 outlets. The latest one is at Kota Damansara. They have also got outlets in Damansara Jaya, Uptown, PJ Old Town (of course!), Kuchai Enterpreneurs’ Park and Puchong Jaya.

I arrived at quarter to 11 and sadly, not even one table was available. So, for the love of dim sum I had to wait a good 5 minutes for someone to finish up their food so that I could then begin my dim sum meal.
The first thing I did was order drinks. At RM4 a glass I would rate this as expensive. Here’s what I drank – longan – very sweet and thirst quenching. Love it!
Below is the array of dim sum that I ate. Call me a glutton, but if you don’t eat lots of varieties, then there’s no point in having a dim sum feast, right?
Siew mai RM4.50 – tasted very good

teamed meat dumplings RM6 for 3 – that would be RM2 each – wow! Quite expensive. When it was served, the gravy was already oozing out – so, can I get a discount for this?
 S
BBQ pork rice roll RM4.80 –filled with lots of pork , so I can’t fault them for this dish –absolutely worth every sen!

Deep fried turnip cake RM4

Tasty loh mai kai RM4.50

Golden bun RM3.60 for 2 – I love this – the buns are filled with pumpkin and the juice will just ooze into your mouth with every bite –heavenly!

Sharkfin dumpling RM4 –I believe it’s just the name – didn’t see any sharks fin in it…anyway, can’t expect much for RM4, right?

Thai style beancurd RM4 – true to it’s name , it was a little hot!

Sticky rice lotus leaf RM4. I found this too sweet for my tastebud. Well, perhaps it’s because I don’t have a sweet tooth.

Seaweed roll RM4. I enjoyed the seaweed roll  and would highly recommend this.

Marmite spareribs RM10 – try this if you are an avid fan of spare ribs – you won’t be disappointed –that’s for sure

Fried sticky rice RM5 – a little too bland.

Fried yam pastry RM4 – tasted as good as it looked….excellent

This is called fish stuffed root – don’t ask me what it means cos I’ve no idea, but it was very yummy!

rystal shrimp dumplings (RM4.50) ….couldn’t get enough of this.
 C

Steamed beancurd (RM4).  One gem of a dim sum!

I also tried these:-

Well, that ends my dim sum fiesta for today!
