Food Lovers , Kota Kemuning

Occupying the corner shop lot, Food Lovers is a rather prominent restaurant and locating it should not be a task.

I was there for a birthday party and here are pictures of  some of the food consumed :-

KK Mayflower, Kota Kemuning

I noticed that there are 2 restaurants with the same name & they are located quite close to each other. I chose to dine at the one that looks less posh because I have been told that the prices here are more reasonable. Of course the other one has the advantage when it comes to ambience.

Salad bean curd (RM15) – with a selection of 2 dippings which were mayonnaise and thousand island dressing this so called salad was actually deep fried bean curd. Just look at the crispy crunchy crust.

Steamed garoupa (RM49) – the fish was very fresh and the steaming time was perfect so much so that the flesh was juicy and yummy.

Braised spare ribs in special sauce (RM30) – I would choose this dish over the garoupa anytime…why? Because separating the meat from the bone was a breeze! The ribs were very well marinated and every bite was pleasant.

Lotus root soup (RM26) – nothing spectacular, just normal.

Both the vegetable dishes we ordered were excellent. -stir fried dragon vege with garlic (RM12) & stir fried paku with belacan (RM8).

Nihonkai, Kota Kemuning

My search for Japanese food in Kota Kemuning proved futile for the first half and hour or so.  Yes, that was before I turned into Business Park 2 and lo and behold I saw 2 Japanese restaurants.  I chose Nihonkai for only one reason – there was an empty parking space right in front of it.

I walked in and noticed that there were 2 types of dining ‘tables’ options – normal tables and chairs OR you could choose to sit at the low tables with cushions. The workers were entirely local Chinese and it certainly did not give me a feeling of being in a Japanese eatery as ordering was all done in Mandarin!

This is the Nihonkai Special Lunch Set. Sold at RM19 per set, I would say this was worth every penny. With this set you get 2 thick slices of well marinated and grilled salmon with teriyaki sauce, a bowl of rice, some pasta and watermelon. Just look at the succulent salmon.

Unagi kabayaki  set lunch - priced at a whopping RM44, this fresh water eel was initially dipped into rich soy sauce and subsequently grilled. It was lovely.

Sliced beef special set (RM20) – tender slices of beef served with rice, miso soup, pasta and watermelon, this set was delicious.

Shakedon and torikatsu set lunch (RM30)  - this is an interesting set comprising of a bowl of vinegared rice  topped with raw salmon and some chicken chop. I love the  how the raw taste of salmon blends with cooked chicken as I mixed them up and eat them with rice. Awesome!

Gindara & yasai tempura set (RM32) – gindara is better known as cod fish to us.  With yummy cod fish for protein and some yasai (that’s Japanese for vegetables) it was a complete meal on its own.

Wakabe menrui (RM14) – my translation of this would be seaweed noodles.  The soup base was slightly salty, otherwise this bowl of noodles was alright.

Edamame RM7

Idako RM6

Ebiko RM7

Kokoro Bento, Kota Kemuning

I like the red bicycle parked in front of the shop. Somehow it gives me a very homely feeling. The restaurant has 2 sections – you may choose to be seated outside or within the air-conditioned section. As it was blazing hot outside, we chose to sit in the colder section.

The kids went ga-ga upon seeing the kids set (RM9.90)which came with Ribena and ice cream. Just look at the ‘interesting’ character inside this bowl of noodles. I knew my son was reluctant to eat up the cuties!

Fries with a single plain, ordinary sausage? Look again! This is salmon sausage. According to my son it was very delicious and did not have that fishy smell.

Edamame  (RM4) – with salt sprinkled on top, the edamame was steamed just right – not raw, yet not over cooked.

Beef teriyaki (RM13.50) – with some black sesame on my rice, some salad and a slice of watermelon, the beef teriyaki set was worth every sen as the beef was tender. Overall I’ll say it was fulfilling.

Shioyaki saba with chicken (RM17) – saba is considered to be healthy food and I found this a nice change to our normal Japanese meal outings.  The fish (saba) is grilled and wasn’t too dry. Love it!
