Black Canyon Coffee Summit USJ

Walking into Black Canyon Coffee at Summit USJ is an amazing experience as I love the calm and quiet of this outlet.  The dim lights and wooden flooring gives it an extra boost as far as ambience is concerned.

These 2 drinks are simply blueberry shake and chiangmai. If you are wondering why the unique name chiangmai, well, you need to know that this chain originates from Thailand.

Spaghetti with chicken and ham (RM9.90) –this generous serving of al dente pasta makes you wanna come back every day for more pasta!

French fries (RM5.90) – not oily, simply marvellous

Green curry rice (RM10.90) – I love the presentation of this plate of rice. Just look at how the rice has been cleverly ‘compacted’ into a block . The egg has been cut and arranged carefully. The same can be said of the cucumber and tomato slices. Love it!

American fried rice (RM10.90) – probably called so because of the sausages, sunny side up and slices of ‘ham’. The fried rice was tasty and we polished it all off!

Chicken salad (RM9.90) -  I like the fact that this healthy platter is colourful and has a variety of vege!

Nasi Lemak @ Ikea

I had a meeting near IPC today and decided to head over to the food court at Ikea for lunch. I decided on the nasi lemak which comes with an otak-otak. I was surprised that the rice was fragrant and the otak-otak nice and succulent. I must admit that I thought I was crazy, having Malaysian food at what is known as a Swedish food court. Anyway, thumbs up for the nasi lemak

KungFu Paradise, Paradigm Mall

With a name that doesn’t appeal to me, walking  into KungFu Paradise was definitely a huge gamble. The simple menu displayed at the exterior showed that it served what I call simple dishes.

Refreshing drinks!
My son was dying to try the seafood udon (RM18.90) and insisted that we went in.  First came the ‘stove’ and then the huge ‘pot’ of udon which was filled with awesomeness – al-dente udon served with eggs and some condiments.

Dry noodles(RM10.90) -  with 2 sausages, an egg and a stalk of vegetable, this perfectly done noodles was yummy.

Japanese curry (RM14.90) – I frankly think that this does not look like Japanese curry , at least the colour wasn’t right to me, but the thick curry was very delicious. I also like the fact that they took the effort to put some black sesame as toppings on the rice.

Seafood tomato fried rice (RM13.90) – the rice was a little soggy, but the taste was pretty alright.

AK Noodles House, Main Place

AK Noodle House is located on the lower ground floor of the Main Place Mall in USJ21. I like the open concept of this eatery – it makes you feel welcome as you can approach it easily. I must emphasise that this is a simple, no frills, eatery.

Business was surely very good when we were there. We had to wait to get ourselves a table. Finally, a family of four left and we were happy to settle down into our chairs, our feet aching from the long wait!

We ordered watermelon juice (RM5.90) and homemade cincau (RM3). I always like it when drinks are served in this jug looking container. The drinks were good and I love the watermelon juice as it wasn’t diluted nor too sweet.

Dried wanton mee (RM8.50) – the springy noodles were excellent and this comes with a bowl of soup with foo chok skin, some fish balls, fish cake and some seaweed.

Curry laksa (RM9.50)

Bitter gourd mackerel rice (RM15.90)  -I love this – fresh mackerel paired with bitter gourd – the end result of which was a really superb tasting bowl of soup. Love it!

Kuay teow soup (RM8.50)

Handmade fish ball soup (RM15) –this bowl of soup does not come with any noodles, but was served with some seaweed and greens. I would say that this was a little pricey although I have no complaints about the taste.

Restoran HLK, Taman Danau Desa

This is what my son calls a restaurant without door i.e the main door is always wide opened, welcoming patrons anytime of the day.

We ordered four dishes to go with rice:-

This dish of stir fried broccoli appears innocuously simple and uninteresting , but trust me, it was crunchily yummy.

This is sweet sour pork with cucumber, onion and chillies. The sweet-sour combo never fail to appeal to my taste bud…and had me ordering an extra bowl of rice!

Stir fried fish  with ginger and spring  onion – this was a fantastic dish as the fish fillet were just what I call flavour bombs!

Hot plate tofu – the silky smooth tofu was a stark contrast with the chucky meat and these were topped with a lovely gravy.

Ippudo, Pavilion

When I walked into Ippudo alone, I was greeted in Japanese and I find this rather annoying, not because I don’t understand Japanese but because it somehow announces my arrival and I can see many heads turning. In fact the staff here are trained to greet everyone who comes in and also everyone who has finished eating & is about to leave. I find this a little ‘noisy’.

I decided to give the Ramen Combo set which was on promotion a try. For RM29.90++ I was given the choice of 1 ramen + 1 side dish or dessert + 1 green tea.

I decided on the shiromaru motoaji and a sake mentai rice. The waitress actually asked how I wanted the noodles done – soft, normal or hard. I chose normal and what I got was al dente noodles in broth. I love the ultra thin noodles which were smooth and slippery.

This is the sake mentai rice which is rice topped with grilled minced salmon and cod fish roe.  I love the fragrance of the rice and found this side dish very appetising.

These promotional sets are only available on weekdays from 11 am to 3 pm.

Upin & Ipin, Giant USJ

The entire restaurant is designed based on the truly Malaysian born cartoon series Upin dan Ipin,a pair of orphaned twins who live with their grandma. The television sets place in strategic locations within the restaurant play the Upin & Ipin series all day long. The outlet has also allocated a fair amount of space for the retail of merchandise ranging from toys to tumblers, food containers as well as T-shirts.

We ordered fresh orange  (RM5.90) and a bottled lychee and a bottled blackcurrant juice (RM3 each). I love the tangy refreshing orange juice and was glad to see that the bottled drinks are actually printed with the characters of the twins.

Nasi cencaru sumbat (RM9.90) – with its exquisite flavour, this dish was a combo of sweet and savoury which really tingled my taste bud.

Nasi goreng atok (RM8.90) – I would say the beautiful presentation resembles that of nasi goreng kampung- fried rice with an egg on top, decorated with sliced cucumber and tomatoes along with some fish crackers.

Spaghetti carbonara (RM12.90)-deliciously creamy!

Ayam goreng Upin & Ipin (RM3.80 ) – the fried chicken here is crunchy on the outside yet tasty and moist inside. Love it!

Although the outlet has the Mastercard sign, we were told that they only accept cash.

Dragon One Seafood Restaurant, Kuantan

Along the busy stretch of Jalan Haji Ahmad, Dragon One Seafood offers an escape from the noise produced by cars zooming along the road. Occupying a corner shop lot, this restaurant offers free wifi for its customers.

I was there for dinner recently and I must say the food there is good and the service pretty alright.

These are some of the dishes that I had:-

I must announce to you that the ikan jebong cooked asam style had the right amount of tanginess without being overly fiery. The pleasant savoury taste was definitely great!
