KungFu Paradise, Paradigm Mall

With a name that doesn’t appeal to me, walking  into KungFu Paradise was definitely a huge gamble. The simple menu displayed at the exterior showed that it served what I call simple dishes.

Refreshing drinks!
My son was dying to try the seafood udon (RM18.90) and insisted that we went in.  First came the ‘stove’ and then the huge ‘pot’ of udon which was filled with awesomeness – al-dente udon served with eggs and some condiments.

Dry noodles(RM10.90) -  with 2 sausages, an egg and a stalk of vegetable, this perfectly done noodles was yummy.

Japanese curry (RM14.90) – I frankly think that this does not look like Japanese curry , at least the colour wasn’t right to me, but the thick curry was very delicious. I also like the fact that they took the effort to put some black sesame as toppings on the rice.

Seafood tomato fried rice (RM13.90) – the rice was a little soggy, but the taste was pretty alright.

Italiannies

This is what I would label as an Italian restaurant, albeit one that has been very much ‘localised’. I like the concept where a long table is placed at the front of the restaurant. This is where pizza is made. In fact, I must admit that I did stand there watching the guy make pizza for at least 10 minutes before we finally decided to dine there.

Kids eat for free with every paying adult – meaning that you get a free meal for one child with every main course (adult portion, that is) ordered – definitely a good deal, I must say.

We ordered warm water –which by the way is complimentary. Bread is also served after you have placed your orders. I like the soft and fluffy white bread here.

Mushroom soup (RM9.90) –chunks of mushroom in creamy goodness – this did not disappoint!

Ham and mushroom pizza (Rm37.90) – baked til crisp and golden, even the base of the pizza was delicious. I would say this pizza is best suited for the ultimate cheese lover.

Spaghetti Bolognese – free of charge! The spaghetti was cooked to the tooth and was exceptionally good.

Angel hair pomodoro (RM24.90) – a tad too sour for my liking as the chef has been a little too generous, in my opinion that is, with the tomatoes.

Pizza Margherita – free of charge once again as this is a kiddy portion. My son said it was superb – it was warm, crispy and had lots of tomatoes & cheese – that’s his definition of a good pizza!

Steam Room, Paradigm Mall

I go to Paradigm Mall quite often but have always skipped this area of the mall as it is rather secluded from what I call the main building. Today, I ended up at this area as I was looking for the washrooms.

We ordered sugar cane herbal drink (RM10.80) and it came in a jug. From the photo below you can see that the drink was boiled with some water chestnut. What am absolutely refreshing drink.

Coconut chicken soup (RM16.80) – delicious and nutritious, this interestingly unique soup was simply awesome. Every spoonful reminded me of my grandma’s super powerful soups!

This is called chicken boxing (RM8.80) – well, the chicken is crunchy and yummy..and it was easy to eat as you can hold it in your hand.

3 jewels steam egg (RM10.80) – named so because this dish is made of 3 different types of eggs- century egg, chicken egg and salted eggs. The combination was perfect.

Stuffed beancurd (RM18.80) – I like the fact that this dish was served with some broccoli, making this dish a complete meal on its own.

And I must say this is truly a hidden gem of Paradigm Mall!

Sakae Sushi, Paradigm Mall Kelana Jaya

Another boring weekend and since I’ve nothing lined up for the day, ended up at Paradigm Mall for lunch. Finding a parking space was as simple as ABC, probably because I was there before the crowd came in at noon.

As usual I grabbed some mochi (RM5.99) – 3 pieces placed in a red plate. I’ve always loved the texture of mochi which I would describe as chewy!

This is the haru set. Priced at RM24.90, this set of salmon and chicken was my choice. The salmon was good, but the chicken was slightly tough.

Fuyu (RM31.90) – with unagi and some tempura. I tried some tempura and it was decent by my standards. I really loathe eating tempura which is soggy – I find soggy tempuras somewhat uninspiring visually and also to the taste bud.

Chicken teriyaki ramen (RM12.90) – with a texture that can be said to be springy with substance, this bowl of ramen was superb. I love the sight of it and eating it was a pleasure. The black fungus went well with the chicken.

I must say that the food at this particular Sakae outlet tasted far better, to me that is,  than the many other outlets I’ve been to.

Fa Ying, Paradigm Mall

Went to Paradigm Mall to get myself a pair of shoes today and ended up looking through the directory to find a decent place to eat. The minute I saw that Fa Ying was by Rama V, I wasted no time to look for it.

We decided to sit outside as it wasn’t hot and Alfresco dining was something we would love to try at Paradigm.

Our drinks – Ribena lychee (RM13), lemon grass (RM15) and lemon grass basil (RM13) . I had the lemon grass basil - I love the aromatic scent of basil with its subtle peppery taste, which when put together with lemon grass, makes a drink that is refreshing and light with a slight tinge of lemony fragrance.

Pineapple fried rice (RM20) – I always loved it when pineapple rice is served in the pineapple itself and somehow or rather it always tastes better. I would say the ones at Rama V are excellent and I would highly recommend them as the outcome of mixing fruit and savoury here is simply superb.

Grilled beef salad (RM18) –simply hearty and nutritious, how can I not drool at the sight of this?

Mushroom soup (RM16) – definitely above average, this bowl of soup which came with a slice of garlic bread was filled with unadulterated mushroom goodness!

Green curry with rice (RM18) – My choice was green curry chicken. I love the fact that it was spicy and layered with flavour.

Minced beef on cucumber (RM12) – pleasing to the eyes and easy to eat, kids will fall head over heels with this dish. And if you have kids who insist on creative and interesting food, then this will surely please them.

I have to say that service here is prompt, detailed and definitely worth a mention. Thanks to our server, Andy, who attented to every minute detail and sometimes ‘impossible’ requests of ours. You certainly made our dining experience at Fa Ying not only pleasant but very memorable.
