Mamak Andersen, Publika

Had a meeting at Publika until almost lunch time – decided to had a quick lunch there and I found this place called Mamak Andersen which offers set lunch. I ordered the pasta set priced at RM13.90 , which works out to be RM15.30 after a 10% service charge.

To get the attention of the waiter all you need to do is to press one of 3 buttons –just like the ones you see at Tai Thong. Anyway, they come very quickly and I must say I was impressed.

My pasta set comes with ice lemon tea – truly the most sour ice lemon tea I’ve ever had. I ask the friendly waiter to add lots of water for me, and when it came back, I still could not take the level of sourness in it.

Then came the mushroom soup – alright, but a little too creamy for me.

For my main course I had spaghetti with fish – Served with napoleon sauce …hmmm…if you are wondering what that is , well, I would say you get tomato sauce, some onions, some herbs, olive oil  and  garlic in it, the sauce was actually very delicious. The pasta portion was huge and the same can be said of the deep fried fish fillet. Love it!

Note :  See the photos below to see how much the 3 items would have cost had they been ordered separately. The spaghetti alone costs more than RM15.30!!!

Old Town Nasi Kandar, PJ Old Town

In a corner of Petaling Jaya which is less

popular with the younger generation i.e PJ

Old Town lies a gem of a Mamak Restaurant

called Old Town Nasi Kandar. I’ve been here

umpteen times that I’ve lost count. So, today I

decided to do a short review of this

restaurant lest this place is forgotten.

To locate this place, simply look for Hong

Leong Bank Old Town. It is located a few

doors away on the next block, i.e on the same

row as Popular Bookstore.

As you walk in, you will be greeted by the

ever smiling cashier by the name of Hossain.

Someone will instantaneously come to take

you order. The two of us ordered roti telur,

roti kosong and of course nasi kandar and

iced Horlicks .

Our food came in a jiffy. This is the roti

kosong served with dhal and also fish curry.

The dhal was good, lots of dhal in this plate.

But the better gravy had to be the fish curry –

full of spices and delectable to the last drop –

we finished up the entire plate of gravy and

asked for more!! That says a lot about the

curry.

This is the roti telur. The server was smart

enough to cut the roti into tiny pieces as my

meal companion today was just a child.

Thumbs up for friendly, efficient and excellent

service.

This is nasi kandar. I only took a piece of

chicken and some long beans. The long beans

were well-cooked, unlike those you find in

many Mamak Stalls which are often slightly

raw. I would say that the piece of fried

chicken was so delicious that I label it as the

hallmark of fried chicken.

I do have one complaint though – the

Horlicks was absolutely toooooo sweet. I just

hope that in future they will reduce the

amount of sugar used in a glass of Horlicks,

at least by up to 70%!
