Little Pantry, IOI Mall

I was invited for a party at Little Pantry  a while ago.  You can feel that the place is shouting out to you ‘COME PARTY HERE’ even as you stand at the entrance which is decorated with balloons. Walk a few steps in and you will notice that the place is so sweet and lovely, with its walls and deco in white and pink, giving it a very girly effect- just the perfect setting for an all-gal party!

Children sets were prices at RM13.90 and this came with a main course + Ribena + free sand art. Wow! I could see many children busy at the sand art station, making their favourite cartoon characters  -Mickey, Minions, you name it……

Serving Western as well as Asian food, one would be spoilt for choice here and below are some of the food that we ate at the party:-

Yume Cuisine, Tropicana City Mall

I’ve always referred to this restaurant as the Sponge Bob restaurant as you can easily spot it due to the Sponge Bob T-shirt hanging next door. I was told that the owner actually started off with a business in fashion and accessories but then decided to give food a try.

Our drinks  -coconut (RM6) , grape juice (RM6.90)  & herbal tea (RM3):-

Special rice noodle (RM18) – well, with a name like this I expected the noodles to have some oomph..and yes, it certainly did have something special. The noodles were firm and the soup was tasty. Love it!

Special sweet and sour pork (RM18) – what makes this dish so unique is the fact that it is served in ice. I have often wondered what ice & a piping hot dish like this would turn out to be – and…well, it turned out to be truly delicious and I would highly recommend it.

Broccoli (RM12) – one can never go wrong with this dish…hence I’ve no complaints about it.

Stir fried escargot with celery (RM20) – I’ve always loved escargots (read : cooked Western style)  but this version, which was spicy was a first for me and I would say it was surprisingly yummy.

Prawns in dragon fruit (RM30) – prawns cooked with dragon fruit and served in just the skin of the fruit – frankly, I’ve never come across this dish before and the first bite already told me that this would be a dish I can eat anytime, anywhere.

Steamed bean curd with minced pork and prawns (RM12) – despite its rather simple presentation, this dish was very appetising.

All in all I would sum up the food here as excellent!

Coffee Chemistry, First Subang

It was late in the evening and we suddenly had the yen for something Western. We ended up at Coffee Chemistry in First Subang Mall.

From the outside, the place looks very welcoming.

We had the passion fruit shake (RM10.90) and the rich, thick yet silky smooth strawberry smoothie.

This is the mixed vegetable salad (RM8.90).  Just look at how fresh the ingredients were. This came with a slightly sour dressing.

Homemade cream of mushroom (RM9.90)- just like the smoothie, this was thick and rich. Excellent!

Chicken tomato spaghetti (RM10.90) – a huge serving which was worth every penny!

Lamb shepherd’s pie (RM17.90) – I don’t know why this is called lamb shepherd’s pie as I have all along thought that shepherd’s pie MUST be made from lamb. And if beef is used instead, then it is called cottage pie.

Green pesto pasta with salmon (RM26.90) – consuming green pasta is always the healthier choice as the colour is obtained from fresh spinach leaves, making the pasta significantly more nutritious.

Retro Kitchen, SS2

I was invited for a little birthday celebration here at Retro Kitchen.  Retro Kitchen isn’t THAT easy to find, but now that I’ve been there, I would say look out for 7-11, it’s located right upstairs.

The look of the shop from the outside was nothing to shout about. In fact, it certainly didn’t stand out. But, when you enter you will be surprised, well, at least I was…to see the quite impressive collection of ….er…should I say antiques in the shop. I saw a television set from yester-years, an entire cabinet of charcoal operated irons that date as far back as 1928, milk tins that I swear I’ve never ever come across in my life….and lots more!

Drinks are aplenty here including beer. Here are some of the drinks we had :- Apple calamansi – that’s mine! I love the combination of sweet & sour..it was absolutely refereshing!

Carrot juice & apple calamansi

Carrot juice & ice lemon tea

Grilled chicken salad (RM12.90) – I ordered it as my entrĂ©e…and boy, was I shocked to see the size of the serving. It huge…but most important of all delicious. The well marinated chicken was grilled, yet it was tender and tasty. I love the bed of crisp salad, which was drizzled with some balsamic vinegar.

This is mushroom soup, served with a slice of garlic bread. The pure soup had plenty of mushroom flavour and of course mushroom  goodness and I really loved it.

Pineapple fried rice – when this was served, the aroma was just too tempting. I  couldn’t help but ask my son for a few spoonfuls of his rice. This must definitely be one of the better pineapple rice in town!  Besides that I also love the fact that the rice was served in what I call the ‘pineapple vessel’. This always makes pineapple rice somehow more appealing.

This is just a simple dish – noodles with chicken & some vegetables on the side – despite its plain presentation, this dish was delicious. The noodles were smooth and eating them was a pleasant experience.

Something from the kids menu – sausage fried rice. Well, yummy….but I’ll choose the pineapple rice, anytime and leave this for the kids!
