Yume Cuisine, Tropicana City Mall

I’ve always referred to this restaurant as the Sponge Bob restaurant as you can easily spot it due to the Sponge Bob T-shirt hanging next door. I was told that the owner actually started off with a business in fashion and accessories but then decided to give food a try.

Our drinks  -coconut (RM6) , grape juice (RM6.90)  & herbal tea (RM3):-

Special rice noodle (RM18) – well, with a name like this I expected the noodles to have some oomph..and yes, it certainly did have something special. The noodles were firm and the soup was tasty. Love it!

Special sweet and sour pork (RM18) – what makes this dish so unique is the fact that it is served in ice. I have often wondered what ice & a piping hot dish like this would turn out to be – and…well, it turned out to be truly delicious and I would highly recommend it.

Broccoli (RM12) – one can never go wrong with this dish…hence I’ve no complaints about it.

Stir fried escargot with celery (RM20) – I’ve always loved escargots (read : cooked Western style)  but this version, which was spicy was a first for me and I would say it was surprisingly yummy.

Prawns in dragon fruit (RM30) – prawns cooked with dragon fruit and served in just the skin of the fruit – frankly, I’ve never come across this dish before and the first bite already told me that this would be a dish I can eat anytime, anywhere.

Steamed bean curd with minced pork and prawns (RM12) – despite its rather simple presentation, this dish was very appetising.

All in all I would sum up the food here as excellent!

Papa’s Café, Tropicana City Mall

What drew me in to Papa’s Café was the spanking white walls which instantaneously gave me the impression of an impeccably  clean eatery.

Cincau ice (RM3.50) and barley. The barley drink came in a set together with the sang mee set priced at RM9.90.

Vanilla milk shake (RM7.90) and strawberry milk shake (RM7.90) – I would say Papa’s Café serves one of the better milk shakes. I can vouch for this as I am a HUGE fan of milkshakes!

This is the sang mee which I mentioned earlier. It comes with a generous amount of cabbage and fish cake. The springy noodles were yummy.

Nasi lemak ayam (RM9.90) – with the usual compliments of peanuts, cucumber slices, anchovies, sambal, hard boiled eggs and a chicken thigh, this nasi lemak was just alright.

Salmon steak (RM25.90) – I would call this a salmon steak with a difference. Served with fries, cucumber slices and some mushrooms and sweet peas, I found this rather interesting. The salmon was fully coated in sauce..and that would be my only complaint of this dish –would prefer if the gravy/sauce is served separately.

This is called papa’s kiddo (RM9.90) – a platter meant for kids. With the usual kiddie stuff such as sausage, fried eggs, sliced cucumber, hash brown and some fries, this dish made a good breakfast.

Italiannies

This is what I would label as an Italian restaurant, albeit one that has been very much ‘localised’. I like the concept where a long table is placed at the front of the restaurant. This is where pizza is made. In fact, I must admit that I did stand there watching the guy make pizza for at least 10 minutes before we finally decided to dine there.

Kids eat for free with every paying adult – meaning that you get a free meal for one child with every main course (adult portion, that is) ordered – definitely a good deal, I must say.

We ordered warm water –which by the way is complimentary. Bread is also served after you have placed your orders. I like the soft and fluffy white bread here.

Mushroom soup (RM9.90) –chunks of mushroom in creamy goodness – this did not disappoint!

Ham and mushroom pizza (Rm37.90) – baked til crisp and golden, even the base of the pizza was delicious. I would say this pizza is best suited for the ultimate cheese lover.

Spaghetti Bolognese – free of charge! The spaghetti was cooked to the tooth and was exceptionally good.

Angel hair pomodoro (RM24.90) – a tad too sour for my liking as the chef has been a little too generous, in my opinion that is, with the tomatoes.

Pizza Margherita – free of charge once again as this is a kiddy portion. My son said it was superb – it was warm, crispy and had lots of tomatoes & cheese – that’s his definition of a good pizza!

Welcome Seafood, PJS 8

Well, I was still in the mood for CNY food and we decided to meet up for lunch at Sunway Mentari. Welcome Seafood has air- conditioning and its doors are always literally open….so you feel welcomed here!
As there was 6 of us, we chose the RM298 set which came with a pot of tea.

The first dish was lou sang – which came with this plate of white fish. I must say that although it wasn’t salmon which is many people’s choice of fish for lou sangs, it was extremely delicious. I like this dish which is only available during the CNY season…..the mess we created – sweet, sourish and  rainbow coloured!

Shark’s fin soup – with real shark’s fin and lots of crab meat!

Stewed pork trotter – with its tasty and gravy and sinfully fat meat – this dish was simply awesome!

This  is called one bucket chicken or chicken in a bucket – steamed chicken served in what to me, resembles a rice bucket. The kampong chicken was surprisingly tender and bursting with flavour.

Steamed white pomfret – with lots of garnishing and meticulously sliced ginger, the fresh fish was a great delight.

We also ordered an additional dish  -steamed white tofu.

Rice wrapped in lotus leaf – the rice was well cooked with some mushrooms and was definitely top notch in terms of taste .

This set also came with Chinese pancakes and longan soyabean – both were marvellous.

Steam Room, Paradigm Mall

I go to Paradigm Mall quite often but have always skipped this area of the mall as it is rather secluded from what I call the main building. Today, I ended up at this area as I was looking for the washrooms.

We ordered sugar cane herbal drink (RM10.80) and it came in a jug. From the photo below you can see that the drink was boiled with some water chestnut. What am absolutely refreshing drink.

Coconut chicken soup (RM16.80) – delicious and nutritious, this interestingly unique soup was simply awesome. Every spoonful reminded me of my grandma’s super powerful soups!

This is called chicken boxing (RM8.80) – well, the chicken is crunchy and yummy..and it was easy to eat as you can hold it in your hand.

3 jewels steam egg (RM10.80) – named so because this dish is made of 3 different types of eggs- century egg, chicken egg and salted eggs. The combination was perfect.

Stuffed beancurd (RM18.80) – I like the fact that this dish was served with some broccoli, making this dish a complete meal on its own.

And I must say this is truly a hidden gem of Paradigm Mall!

Sam You Claypot, PJ New Town

This restaurant is not to be confused with Sam You which is located in PJ New Town too. Sam You Claypot basically does chicken rice and a selection of other food which are served in claypots, hence the name Sam You Claypot.

These were the drinks we ordered:-
Shali sour plum (RM2.80) and cincau (RM2). The cincau comes in a bottle, which was a plus because if you can’t finish it there, you could always take the bottle with you. The shali plum drink was brilliant!

Kerabu chicken feet (RM5) – with lots of chicken feet, the price can be considered cheap. However, I found this dish a tad too sour for me.

Stewed pork with mui choy (RM15) – mui choy always makes me eat more and that was what exactly happened today. I had to order an extra bowl of rice!

Stewed duck with black beans (RM16) – this dish was not only aromatic but the meat was tender and easy on the teeth!

This is called black vinegar pork leg (RM12) – when we ordered this , we expected just a tiny portion – we made our judgement based on the pricing. But, when it was served, we were in for a huge surprise as the serving was really huge. The dark brown, succulent pork was sweet and sourish, just the way I loved it.

The picture above shows the yummy yau mak we had  (RM7). I like the fact that the vegetables were not dried up and withered when served.
