Makan Trip to Ipoh - Restoran San Kee, Ipoh

It was close to 3pm and we were starving after our boat ride at Tasik Lang, near Perak Tong.

As we drove along Jalan Kuala Kangsar we tried our luck at a few restaurants but most were closed at 2.30pm.

We finally arrived at San Kee. I enquired whether they were still taking orders for lunch and the boss said yes. Phew! What a relief.

After we were all settled in our seats the boss said ‘If you take the set lunch it will be very much faster’. All of us nodded as we were really hungry. We settled for the RM150 set which consisted of a few dishes and duck. We told the boss that we did not want duck and so he offered to replace it with tofu.

We also said we did not want kangkung and he said he would replace it with choy sum….and so began our wait for our food to arrive.

 Food arrived 5 minutes later and the first dish brought to us was this….Hold on, wait a minute…the set wasn’t supposed to have this dish. Despite our hunger we summoned the boss and this was what he said ‘No more choy sum, so we cooked this for you ‘. ‘What!’ that was what I said in my mind..but then since all of us were so hungry we didn’t want to argue.

 Well, a trip to Ipoh isn’t complete without this…and since it was part of the set..here it is –Ipoh bean sprouts with chicken.

This is what we got in exchange for duck – Japanese tofu with mushroom slices and baby corn.

Sweet and sour fish – I’ll give it 8/10 for looks and presentation but I won’t give such a high rating for taste.

 This is salted fish with pork (ham yee fa lam) –not bad!

Fried eggs a.k.a foo yong tan.

We were then served watermelon for dessert.

RM150 was all we paid for these plus Chinese tea and rice.
