Restoran Hoover, Sungai Lembing

This is my second trip to Sungai Lembing and this time I went there for 2 reasons – to visit the famed Museum and to have lunch. After a tour of the Museum, which to be frank added a wealth of knowledge re the tin mining industry to me, I was famished.

We walked along North Canton Street and decided on Hoover. This is a very popular eatery and is often flocked by tourists being ferried here by the tour operators.

Every trip to Sungai Lembing is not complete without tomato noodles. And that was the first dish we ordered. Made with  fresh noodles produced here in a little factory in Sungai Lembing, the tomato noodles were springy and well coated with ketchup. It was a hit not only among the kids, but us adults too.

Refreshing herbal drink

Sweet & sour fish – the fish was rather big but the chef had cleverly cooked it in such a manner that the fish had absorbed the sweetness and sourness of the gravy. Excellent!

Home made tofu – I am not a fan of tofu, but this one was certainly very yummy.

Stir fried yau mak – garnished with a few slices of chillies, the yau mak was perfectly cooked.

Imperial China SS17 Subang Jaya 大同皇府酒家

Imperial China is one of the many restaurants under the Tai Thong group. It is located in a building which also houses a badminton hall and Neway Karaoke. Ample parking is available here as you have the option of parking in the building itself of just park at the MPSJ lots.

The ambience is as pleasing as one could wish for and I certainly have no qualms about dining here.

This is the aromatic and nutritious soup – double boiled with chicken.

Green dragon vegetable (RM30)  – this is one vege that tastes and smells like chives and is not commonly found. When I was told that they served this vege, it was therefore only natural that I ordered it without a second thought.  It was  stir fried with sufficient wok hei and the outcome was superb.

Pomfret in sweet and sour sauce (RM48.80) – I was amazed by the presentation. If you look carefully you will notice that the fish has been ‘sliced’ – the flesh of the fish has been cut out and this makes eating it a breeze – even for small kiddies tiny fish bones are no longer an issue.

Pork ribs in champagne (RM59.20) – the pork ribs were tough and everyone came to a consensus that this was the one thing we would avoid in our future visits here.

Braised mixed vegetables with bean curd (RM13.80) – if you have no idea what that means – it’s simply lo han chai – well, the presentation did put me off in the beginning as I loathe to see vegetables served in a clay pot. I don’t mind meat in claypots…but definitely not vegetables! But the taste was alright.

This is stir fried beef with bean sprouts (RM18.80) – although the portion was a tad tiny,I enjoyed this dish a lot. The beef was tender and well cooked. The combination of beef and bean sprouts was simply marvellous!

Baked escargot in cheese- at a hefty price tag of RM60 for a large serving, this dish was everyone’s favourite. Luckily the taste justified the pricing!

Woo Ga Chon, Sunway

Woo Ga Chon has been around for quite a few years but I only had the chance to walk into the Sunway outlet today. I like the ambience - there were lots of pictures of Korea all over the restaurants. Pictures of Korea in the winter, autumn, etc. It gave me a very "Korean" feel.

Immediately after we were seated the staff , all of whom are Koreans, served us with this tea.

Pork and chicken - before BBQ

We decided on the BBQ selection -dak gal bi (RM28 ) - that's chicken and also dae ji gal bi (pork), also priced at RM28.

It's cooking!

Pork - it's done

Chicken - ready to eat!

The outcome - both the chicken and pork were very delicious. The chicken was slighlty spicy and I actually prefered it to the pork.

As with all other Korean BBQ meals, this one come with ample ban chan.

Cabbage

Lettuce

Soup

Kimchi and radish

Corn with cream

Spinach, brinjal

White tofu - this was really good!

Chives

Steamed egg -one of the best I've tasted

Mashed Potato

Anchovies with peanuts

Dessert
After a very hearty meal, we had a pleasant surprise -we were served dessert  -a chilled bowl of dessert which tasted like barley to me and some watermelon. Perfect!

I'll be back again, thats for certain!

Jiro Shabu, USJ 10

Jiro Shabu is quite easy to locate – it is on the same road as the prominent OCBC Bank in Taipan USJ. I was attracted by the colourful food as I stood at the door and immediately walked in without even looking at the price, which I now know is RM35 nett per head with the concept of eat as much as you like.

There  are a variety of soup base to choose from but we decided on kimchi and clear soup. From the conveyor belt there is a decent choice of ingredients which you need to select, and then place it in your soup to boil. The one complaint I have is that the serving is small and you may end up stacking lots of plates on your table, giving you (and the people at the other tables!!) the impression that you have been a glutton!

Only 2 prawns in one plate!

There is a sushi and tempura counter where you can take whatever you wish to have.

This is the drink dispenser located towards the end of the restaurant. You may drink as much as you want as all drink are bottomless. All you need to do is help yourself i.e you need to leave your table everytime you need to refill your drinks.

Ice cream – free flow as well. When I was there, there was also watermelon for dessert.

I would say that if you are not a small eater, like me, this ‘buffet’ shabu is quite worthwhile.
