Coliseum Café, Jalan TAR, KL

Established in 1921, Coliseum Café is still reputed today as one of the best places to go to for Western food with a different touch. The ambience is nothing great – with ceiling boards that have definitely stood the test of time and waiters who look like they come from a different era, I walked in without much expectation.

The menu are all nicely placed on the table and we browsed through the menu. Indeed we were spoilt for choice as they do not only serve Western food, but also a variety of Asian dishes as well as sandwiches.

Strangely enough the three of us settled for the sizzling plate albeit of different kinds of meat and we were given a bib each to wear, which we all did with a wink and a smile.

Before our sizzling steak arrived, we were given a bowl of salad consisting of cucumbers, tomatoes and some lettuce along with thousand island dressing.

This is the sizzling fillet steak (RM43.90). I asked for it to be well done and what I got was simply marvellous. As I am not a fan of medium or rare steak, I found it to be just right – not too dried and tough nor too raw. The generous amount of gravy given was a plus and I loved every bite of the aromatic, appealing steak.

This is sizzling spring chicken turkey ham (RM35.90). An entire spring chicken with a whole tomato is what you get – with the bowl of salad consumed earlier, of course. The chicken was tender and flavourful.

Sizzling New Zealand lamb chop (RM42.90) – 3 pieces of lamb chop – well, it tasted alright but had bits of fat in it.
