Sungai
Lembing? Where is that?
Sungai
Lembing is located approximately 40kms from Kuantan. Sungai means river and
lembing means spear. Legend has it that the name Sungai Lembing came about
because a man saw a vision of a spear in the river.
Sungai
Lembing was once a famous tin mining time and was then the richest town in
Pahang. What I saw during my trip there was quite the opposite – a small,
sleepy town with hardly any youngsters. I was told that many have left and as
such there was an abundance of deserted houses which have slowly but surely become
run down over the years.
Having
said that Sungai Lembing does not lack in activities for the tourists. You can
take a walk on the suspension bridge which leads you to the famous noodle
makers. There you can see for yourself the process of noodle making…you may
also buy some back. They are sold at RM7 per bag of 2kgs each. There is also
the Panaroma Hill- this is a rather steep hill which you may climb (after
surmounting sufficient courage) to see the beautiful sun rise. There is also the
breath-taking Rainbow Waterfall which is only accessible by 4WD.
And…after
all those tiring activities, it’s time for lunch and we ended up at Sungai
Lembing Rest House close to 2pm.
We ordered the must try Sungai Lembing tomato
noodles. The huge plate of noodles (RM40) was sufficient to feed 10 people. The
generous portion of noodles was yummy – it was filled with lots of prawns,
eggs, fish cake, vegetables, char siew and of course tomato sauce. Before eating the noodles we had to do a ‘lou
sang’ to it, i.e we all stood up and mixed all the ingredients together with the
noodles so that every strand of noodle was
well coated with the delicious gravy.
