Occupying a corner shoplot which once
housed a Chinese medicine shop, Yi Poh prides itself as being a noodle house.
If fast and efficient service is what you want, then look no further when you
are in PJ Old Town.
The foreign workers here have what I
would say is a reasonable command of English, making communication a breeze.
The menu was already on the table when we arrived at half past eleven in the
morning. There is a sheet of paper for you to write down what you want.
We gave our order sheet to the
friendly waiter who then painstakingly repeated our orders.
This is the pickled chillies and
chilli oil – take as much as you can consume.
Loh shee fun – I believe this is their
signature dish as it is featured in the shops signage. What makes this loh shee fun unique is its
length (very long!) and its silky smooth texture. All you need to do is to mix
all the ingredients well and voila….dig in.
This is yellow noodles with minced
meat and char siew. Again, being a ‘dry’ noodle, you need to mix them all well
and ensure that every strand of noodle get coated in the black sauce before
consuming.
Dried wanton noodles – with some
vegetables and delicious char siew, the springy wan ton noodles were a delight.
Whether the crowd at Yi Poh is
testament of the taste of the noodles – you judge for yourself.
