Restoran Shiang Sze Lou, Jenjarom

Nothing much to do on this boring day so I decided to get a few friends and off we went to Jenjarom in search of whatelse but FOOD! We drove around the town and noticed that many shops were not opened for lunch. We also drove past Kim Mua Lau, which I have reviewed some time last year and saw lots of workers busy cleaning up and washing the restaurant.

As there were not many options available we ended up at Restoran Shiang Sze Lou which was an air-conditioned 2 shop-lot eatery. Communication proved to be a challenge as the foreign workers understood limited Mandarin…and could not understand either Bahasa Malaysia or English.

We ordered steam fish (RM36) . I love fish but I can’t say that I enjoyed eating this fish. Once the flame was out, I could smell mud..and that was certainly a great put off for me. In addition to that, the fish was still a little frozen in the inside.

2 steamed crabs weighing half a kilogramme (RM21) – which worked out to be RM42 per kg.Wow! Very expensive for a small town. The taste was just so-so.

Choy sum – stir fried with garlic (RM8) – boy oh boy did we bitch about this plate of vegetable…we ordered Hong Kong choy sum, which according to normal KL standards would mean young vegetables, but what we got was a far cry from that!

This is called Japanese ribs (RM15) and was indeed the best dish for this meal. The sauce was mildy sweet and it surely did tantalise my senses.

We then ordered dessert – known as salad pillows (RM12) this was crunchy on the outside and yummy inside. It was filled with corn and green peas coated in mayonnaise and was really awesome!
