A special day calls for some celebration and that was how we ended up at Janbo on a hot Sunday afternoon. It was fairly easy to get a parking spot but even then the burning hot sun made the 80 metres walk from my car to the restaurant somewhat a torture!
We didn’t want to split hairs
thinking of what to eat, so we took the easy way out by ordering the RM528+ set
which could feed 10 people, but since there were 13 of us, we asked for 1.5
sets….hahaha!
This is the chef special hot
& cold dish combination – I love the array of colours in this platter and
the clever use of the red, wafer flower to fill in the empty slot on the
platter. The taste of all items in this first dish was certainly above par.
Double boiled chicken golden
sharks fin soup with golden dumplings – although the taste was acceptable, I
didn’t like the idea of a dumpling in my shark’s fin soup!
Steamed garoupa with soya
sauce – I liked the fact that they used sea garoupa as the flesh was firm and
did not have that earthy smell that I disliked.
Herbal chicken – the original
set had crispy duck but since some of us do not like duck, we asked for it to
be changed. When this dish came, I was shocked as I had never expected to see
herbal chicken ‘swimming’ in a huge plate….what I mean is that there was way
too much gravy…and I wonder which part of it had herbs in it. Anyway, we dug
into the chicken and …….the inside was still frozen. We sent the entire plate
back to the kitchen for reheating.
Portugese style seawater
prawns – Wow! This had to be the best dish for the meal. Fresh prawns cooked to
perfection.
This is called braised mixed
vegetable – with lots of mushrooms and some gingko, this dish looked
interesting and was delicious as well.
