Meng Kee Peking Duck

The owners of this restaurant certainly own the noodle shop nearby as they bear the same name. I did a ‘test’ to confirm this. 





I ordered a bowl of noodles and asked them to bring it to me at Meng Kee Peking Duck –the waiter said alright provided I pay him cash when food is served. And this is a picture of the bowl of noodles we tried – smooth, fine  noodles with lots of goji berry- it was good!



We ordered some dishes to go with rice – half a roasted duck (RM31) – I must say that this was indeed the best roasted duck I’ve ever had. Crispy on the outside, yet succulent inside. Superb!


Pork ribs in marmite (RM16) – this dish was alright, but I would have preferred the meat cut into smaller pieces.


Crab meat tofu soup (RM12)


Stir fried Hong Kong kalian (RM9) – the serving was rather small, but the kai lan was fried on high flame and as a result of this was good.

AK Noodles House, Main Place

AK Noodle House is located on the lower ground floor of the Main Place Mall in USJ21. I like the open concept of this eatery – it makes you feel welcome as you can approach it easily. I must emphasise that this is a simple, no frills, eatery.



Business was surely very good when we were there. We had to wait to get ourselves a table. Finally, a family of four left and we were happy to settle down into our chairs, our feet aching from the long wait!

We ordered watermelon juice (RM5.90) and homemade cincau (RM3). I always like it when drinks are served in this jug looking container. The drinks were good and I love the watermelon juice as it wasn’t diluted nor too sweet.



Dried wanton mee (RM8.50) – the springy noodles were excellent and this comes with a bowl of soup with foo chok skin, some fish balls, fish cake and some seaweed.




Curry laksa (RM9.50)


Bitter gourd mackerel rice (RM15.90)  -I love this – fresh mackerel paired with bitter gourd – the end result of which was a really superb tasting bowl of soup. Love it!





Kuay teow soup (RM8.50)



Handmade fish ball soup (RM15) –this bowl of soup does not come with any noodles, but was served with some seaweed and greens. I would say that this was a little pricey although I have no complaints about the taste.

Restoran Heng Kee Ulu Yam Noodles, Bt Tinggi Klang



I was in the Bukit Tinggi area with my colleague and we decided to grab a quick lunch. As the weather  was hazy, I decided to order a fresh coconut to quench my thirst and hopefully clear my throat.






I then noticed that this simple restaurant has the ability to cook up so many wonderful dishes as evident from the pictures adorning the walls. But, as were did not have much time before our next meeting I decided to have the Ulu Yam noodles whilst she opted for what I would label as unadventurous Cantonese noodles. I’ll tell you about my Ulu Yam lor meen – with vinegar and lots of lard, this was a platter of awesomeness, if there’s such a word!

Restoran Chuan Kie, Goh Tong Jaya


When the thermometer shows that the temperature in KL is rising and the heat gets a little unbearable, we decided to take a drive to Goh Tong Jaya to breathe in some cooler and definitely fresher air.

After spending some time at the Strawberry farm where we had the opportunity to handpick and pluck strawberries using the pair of scissors provided, we headed over to Chuan Kie for an early lunch.


Although it was just a normal weekend i.e it wasn’t the Malaysian or Singapore school or public holiday weekend, we could see many cars parked along the row of shoplots where most of the eateries of Goh Tong Jaya are located. A large group of tourist from China were getting very excited trying the king of fruits.
We ordered coconut (RM5) and  herbal tea.


This is stir fried mushrooms with lots of garlic, sweet peas, carrot and morsels of meat. The fresh mushrooms were planted here in Goh Tong Jaya and they had a pleasantly smooth texture – delicious! This set us back by RM18.


This is also planted here in Goh Tong Jaya and is known as田七. I’ve always loved this vege as it has a slippery feel and the best way to savour this is by simple stir-frying it with garlic.



This is another simple dish of steamed kampung chicken (RM18) – steamed with ginger accompanied with wolfberries and dates, the sweet gravy was certainly to die for!

Nasi Paprik at Raub Rest House

Going to KB from KL is not a ‘fun’ drive as it takes forever to get there. I decided to make a pit stop at Raub and found the Rest House by chance. The place looked rather deserted and a pleasant waiter asked me if I wanted to order something to eat. I said yes and he gave me a simple one-pager menu from which I picked nasi paprik.

Nasi paprik is said to be of Thai origin. Hence it is super spicy. Made with morsels of chicken along with tomatoes, long beans, chillies , onions and some bird eye chillies this dish was definitely spicy (as it should be) and delicious.

SF Seafood, Sungai Buloh

I was at the Sungai Buloh Chinese School for an event and decided to pop into the restaurant next door for some food before heading home. You many choose to dine alfresco or dine in the air-
conditioned section. I chose the latter as it was sweltering hot.

We ordered this dish called the green dragon vegetable (RM8)  and salted vegetable soup (RM6).





This is salted eggs with pork (RM16) , a dish that is rather ‘new’ to me. I love the mild saltiness of the morsels of meat.


This is ikan jebong steamed with some ginger and lots of garlic (RM30) – the freshness of the fish made this dish simply heavenly.

Inaho Sushi, One City


One City prides itself as having the largest rooftop area attributed to dining. In fact it is recorded in the Malaysia Book of Records as having the Biggest Rooftop F&B area. With that knowledge, we decided to check out the place. I must say that the ample parking at One City coupled with the fact that parking is FOC is certainly a pull factor.






We chose to dine at Inaho Sushi as the prices looked pretty decent.  As we walked in at half past 6, we were spoilt for choice as far as seating was concerned. We decided to sit outside…and I’ll show you why.


From my table, I could see the Main Place (a condo just down the road) and part of the highway.  We could also see the sun slowly going down the horizon. Oh, what a sight to behold!





We had some communication problems with the waiter as his English was rather incomprehensible to me. Well, what we ended up to doing was pointing to pictures in the menu.


Edamame (RM6) –loaded with healthy nutrients, these beans were very well prepared – neither too salty nor tasteless.




Shoyu ikura sashimi (RM15) – slightly pricey, but as these were yummy…I won’t complain.


Chahan (RM10) – Japanese style fried rice – well, the flavour and aroma were just  alright.



Garlic rice (RM7) – with a generous amount of garlic, this dish was simply very, very garlicky, just the way I like it…AWESOME!



Niku udon (RM22) –  this is udon topped with beef.  The smooth chewy textured udon was extremely delicious as the broth which had a tinge of sweetness in it complemented the udon very well.




Salmon don (RM33) –  this simply translates to salmon rice…..hmmm…and that was what this dish was all about. When it was served, you couldn’t even find a grain of rice as they were all covered with very thinly sliced salmon .



For the record, ocha here is RM3 per head.

Grandmama, Pavillion


I like the cover of the menu! Grandmama on a big bike.



Well, well, hopefully service here is fast, just like 
grandmamma zooming away on her bike….and yes, I was impressed by the service. A friendly waitress ushered me to my table and within minutes of placing my order, a piping hot bowl of fish head noodles arrived.


Yummy….the fish was fresh, which was definitely a plus and I love the fact that the soup had lots of evaporated milk in it. Somehow, I always find fish head mee hoon soup more appealing when evaporated milk is incorporated into the soup. Thumbs up!!
