I’ve heard a lot about how great the view from the Ampang Lookout Point is, so I decided to go there and have a look for myself. So here I am, trying to find my way there. The GPS brought me through the KESAS highway before leading to the road which leads me there. At times I thought I was lost, but what the heck, I thought, the GPS can’t be wrong.
So after a few bends on a somewhat winding road I arrive at my destination at 6pm. Parking is RM2 if you park at the “foot” of the stairs and walk your way up. But I would rather for out an additional RM3 for the so called Jockey parking, which turned out to be parking your own car in front of some restaurants.
As it was my first trip there I decided to look around before making the choice of which restaurant to dine in. Climbing the steps (yes, more steps here) with some ‘wise words’ on them, I naturally stopped and had a read. “A Journey Of A Thousand Miles Begin With A Single Step”. How true! And further on you’ll see “A Little Impatience Will Spoil Great Plans” ….hmmm…another one I can’t disagree with. As I walked on I finally came to the peak of the area which says “You are finally 300metres above sea level”. And right here you will find a restaurant called Panaroma Restaurant. As it had just rained prior to my arrival, the seats were wet, so I decided to give it a pass.
Descending the stairs once again, I saw 3 restaurants – Haven, Gasoline and another one simply called the LookOut point Western Food. I opted for Lookout Point Western Food. I walked right in and was immediately served. I noticed that even at 6.30pm all the tables facing the outside (where you get a better view of the sun setting) were already occupied except for one. So no prizes for guessing where I was seated!
I ordered a carrot milk (regular size) which costs RM5.80. The taste was just right –not too sweet and I would say that unless you good at gulping drinks, DO NOT go for the large ones as they are really HUGE!
I also ordered the Bratwurst German Sausage (RM18.80). Well, the presentation was nothing to shout about. A spoonful of coleslaw and some French fries accompanied the 2 sausages. I must admit the visual presentation left me a little disappointed. But, when I cut the sausages and had my first bite, it was absolutely perfect……in fact, I haven’t tasted such a yummy sausage for a while!
Next was the fried salmon balls (RM6.90) which was fried to perfection and served with some chilli sauce. Why I say it was fried to perfection was because I could still taste the salmon in it, it was not too dry – just the way I like it.
I also tried the Kid’s Meal (yes, you read correctly –Kid’s Meal) - nuggets. Once again it was well done. By then I truly believed that LookOut Point must have somehow mastered the art of deep frying food. This dish costs RM12.90 , but you may notice that mine had a piece of ham on top. For that you pay an additional RM1.00
The view from LookOut Point was, true to what I have always been told, absolutely fantastic and is beyond description. So if you would like to go there, the number one tip I would give is to come after it has rained earlier in the day as there would be no haze and you are guaranteed a great view with good food!
